P2 shift knob on a P80?
P2 shift knob on a P80?
As you may all know the p80 shift knobs are infamously known for breaking and sticking. I was taking a look at an 04 xc70 and I really like the shift knob on it. I looked at the general shape and they seem to look similar. Just wondering, could the P2 shift knobs function on a P80? Anyone tried it out?

The grey S70 knobs are pretty common on ebay, but they have the grey release button that is a failure point. Occasionally there is a decent wood insert knob if you watch for a while.
You can get a black replacement release button (much less prone to failure) for your S70 from IPD for $20. Here are the best instructions/pics on the internet for changing out that pesky button.

I have seen 3 V/S70's in parts yards recently with wooden gear-shift levers, and pulled their nice shiny wooden gear-shift levers off to find they also have a crappy piece of grey plastic as the release knobs, and all of them were cracked with pieces of the hinge mechanism missing. All stayed with the cars.
