1988 240 DL advice on if I should purchase or not?

Post by trumpda »

Hey guys, please forgive me if I'm not posting in the right section or what not, I'm about to purchase an '88 240 DL and want to make sure it is the right decision. Here is the craigslist ad : http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/4853513669.html I went to check the car out and this is what seemed to be wrong with it:
- Transmission was very low on fluid (which explains the problems the owner had)
- Windshield wipers weren't working all that well
- Rear muffler wasn't on so it was pretty noisey

The good:
- Wiring was replaced
- New struts, brakes, and tirerods
- 192,000 miles

I don't know Volvos are very new to me, I've been a Subaru driver for while now. The best thing about this car is I managed to talk her down to $300 for it!!!!!! Am I about to buy a car that is going to junk out immediately or what?

I'd suggest buying a new vehicle...older vehicles are mechanically challenging to those who drive only.

As long as you're not afraid to turn a wrench now and then, go for it. I had a Rav4 before I bought my '85 245 and hope to be a 240 driver for life. I'm even trying to talk my wife into selling her forester so she can have one too.
