I learned this the hard way. Apple Bluetooth on my iPhone 6 is not compatible with some of the OBD2 products sold. One has to install unauthorized software to make it work. Not for me, I wasted my money. Not sure why iTunes sells it.

I run DashCommander and EngineLink from my iPad. Both from the iTunes store and they work with the standard wireless OBD transmitters. I got mine on Amazon I think.

I use the PLX devices KIWI and I own a cheap ELM327. I use them both with Torque pro app. The torque software is amazing, you can actually watch the oxygen sensor waveforms in real time. Something that many several hundred dollar hand held scanners cant do. However I have an Android not an Iphone.

What you want to do with OBD-II reader? Most, if not all of them become useless when it comes to a real work to do.
