Lost key.

I have lost the key to my '98 V70 and the nearest dealership requires me to make two trips there, one to provide proof of ownership and the other to insure the key works.

Financially and logistically taking my car there (100mi) via tow is a nightmare.

What other solutions do I have? I am waiting on a return call from another dealer in the interim. My Swedish parts is my other option.

Fax the dealer your proof of ownership (registration), they will send you the keys in the mail.

Just find another dealership. Just about any dealer should be able to verify ownership with a scan of the title via email and then just ship the key to you. On a '98 there really isn't any reason to physically go to the dealership at all since it isn't a chipped key.

Yes, it should be easy to handle any document delivery by email. Try the dealerships that do a lot of e-commerce, maybe Jim Ellis Volvo? Etc.
