1995 850 lost only key. need to start car without key plz

I lost my only key to my 1995 850 volvo. called the dealership and a locksmith way to expensive for a mom of three. Not worried about what it will look like jist really need to start my car without a key. Should I drill the ignition switch? take out cylinder? I really need advice plz.

I'm affraid that a very good locksmith or a dealer are your only options.

Other than that you can buy used ignition switch with a key from junkyard and have somebody to install it for you.

Other than that,your last option is to install a starting switch like on newer bmw.But it costs also.

can I drill the switch and just use a screwdriver to turn it on

Key is $7/ each at dealer. Is this too expensive for you.

the dealership is two hours away and they want 70 dollars. I can not buy a key. can I dril it? directions, instructions, and any advice is accepted

I can't give you advice how to drill it,but locksmiths know how to do that.

Look at the post from cn90 up above, if you use the little "PM" button there to contact him, he may be able to help you get a key for a lot less money.

A dealer should be able to cut one with proof of ownership and your VIN.
More than likely mail it out to you as well, so shop around.
The spares should be pretty cheap after that.

Contact a few dealers within 200 miles from your place.
Fax them your proof of ownership (driver license, registration) and your VIN number.
They will make the keys for you ($7/each).

PS: If you are desperate, then search forum for removal of electrical portion of the switch (left side of steering column) and use a screwdriver to start the engine. You need to prove to yourself (your driver license and vehicle registration) that you are the owner before doing this.
