Hi there, Jimbo.k,

I wish I knew the cause of your problem, I have the exact same behaviour on my '97 855 turbo AWD, except the speed at wich it happens is exactly 102 to 110 km/h.

I thought my back tyres were in cause, because they needed to be changed, but after replacement by new ones: same vibration at same speed!

I just started to look into the problem again and found this post:
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/chat/p ... =vibration
I'll investiguate some more and will get back to you (and the group) if I find something.

Did you solve the problem yet?

Thanks,

Hugo.

I also found this thread:

hinting at a driveshaft problem. Say it ain't so, Jimbo

Peace Frog: you might want to have new tires/tyres ;-) put on the front as well -- same brand, same model, same size of course. Reasons:

it will either fix your vibration problem, or it will rule out tires as the culprit

and

it will save your AWD planetary gear(s) from unecessary wear that leads to gear failure

If one of the four tires is a little bit bigger or smaller than the rest due to different brand or differnt tread height, the gear turns the sides at different speeds, constantly. This was a weak spot in Volvo's AWD system, one that they fixed in recent models.

Good call Matt.

I have to buy a new set of winter tires for our crazy Quebec winters, but meanwhile... do you thik I can create a lot of trouble$$$ by waiting untill then? Our winters are severe but I was hoping to wait untill november for those new tires!

Thanks a lot, for this response, and for this great Web site.

Hugo,

It's so hard to say. For the most part I read about these things and (along with some common-sense mental checks) regurgitate it here. I don't have an AWD nor have I ever worked on one. I've just worked on my 850 and read a few million 850 posts online ;-).

I would call a Volvo dealer and ask to speak to a mechanic, or stop by and speak to one. Or the parts guy -- he's usually pretty good. Ask them about the tire situation.
