2001 XC70 Loses power and then dies

Post by surfziggy »

Last week my wife tried to drive the car home from work when it started to lose power and then stalled and died completely. Coupled with this the electric windows refused to work and the fuel gauge dropped to zero.

Yesterday I went up to her work and we jumpstarted the car. It started OK and then did the same thing, lost power and stalled, fuel gauge went from full to zero and the power windows wouldn't operate.

Recently I replaced the antennae ring and the ignition switch due to an intermittent issue where the car would click but not engage the fuel pump or start.

Once your car starts, it is off the battery.
I had similar issue few days ago with fuel gauge needle just above the red marker.
It started, then died shortly after.

After several attempts, I decided to press on the gas pedal, close to half-way, it started and stayed running with rpm close to 2000.

Feet off the gas pedal, it idled normal after about 30sec.
Next thing I did was to fill up.
It is running fine. But I do have a low mpg issue at this time - averaging 14.8.

In US, the OBD2 port is at driver's left knee, next to the hood lever.
