96. 850R Legit?

96. 850R Legit?

I am going to look at this car this evening. From the picture I see it is missing the spoiler also 5 spoke wheels instead of 7. Also no pic of interior or front clip. I figure rather than questioning the guy thru email it would be best just to go see it myself since its only a 20 min drive. Unless someone went to great lengths to clone it I am pretty certain I will be able to spot whether or not it is real. Just hoping someone can weigh in with their opinion. He has dropped the price to $1400.

The "Yolo" sticker on the tailgate tells me IT isn't a real R.

Get the VIN number and that will tell you. If it isn't a VIN 58 it isn't a R.

Where will the 58 be located in the vin?
I am not an expert mechanic, but I will attempt any repair. Worst case scenario is I screw it up worse than it was.

Those look like snow tires on aftermarket wheels. 96 850Rs should have suede inserts in the seats too.

Yes, if the seats are all uniform material / leather than not an R.

Let us know how it goes, sounds like a good price. pictures are always interesting too.

The engine code "58" should be the 6th and 7th characters in the VIN.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
