2008 V70 Question on 3.2 rear End Accessory Drive
I have heard the 3.2 engine has a problem with the Rear End Accessory Drive (READ) and it cost $4000 to repair when it goes bad. Is this a common problem and at how many miles will this occur? I am approaching 90,000 miles and may trade in the car to avoid the potential of this repair if it is common.

There are ball and tapered roller bearings in the READ. Lack of oil change and frequent short trips in cold weather with inadequate oil changes cause corrosion in the bearings and failure. The fail rate in the sunbelt is low and unless your vehicle had poor oil change history it is likely not a big deal.
