2000 v70xc used xemodex etm, reprogram needed???

Post by mrscullini »

can't seem to find a straight answer. my 2000 died. i have a used xemodex etm for sale in the classifed section. i'd like to be able to tell a potential buyer with certainty whether or not this thing needs reprogramming.

when i bought it, i had to send xemodex my vin. from there, it was "plug-n-pray" when i got it. it worked great. without reprogramming, will this item be "plug-n-pray" for a different vehicle?

The answer is maybe. The ETMs usually will swap between the same engines without reprogramming but there are different software versions and they don't swap between those versions without a download. Moving it from a 2.4 LPT to a 2.3 HPT or a N/A won't work without a download. Moving it from a 2.4 LPT to another 2.4 LPT might work but it might not.

I bought a used xemodex from a 2000 V70 for a 2000 V70 and it was plug and play. I have also installed a used/serviceable ETM from a 2000 S70 Turbo into a 2000 V70 and it was also plug and play. All the cars had same transmission and engine model, and year. I did stack the deck in my favor, Lee's statement of "maybe" makes sense. When it comes to Lee's best guess it is usually better than most peoples fact.

I may be wrong, but I think that XeMODex may
have had more than one version of this fix.
Why not give their tech support desk a call?
Then post back and let us know!

Anything about this on Don's ETM page?

I run an ETM repair/replacement service here in Australia and just like Ozark says. No straight answers here. 8-)8-)

Software versions can vary from vehicle to vehicle. I can read which software version with Vida/Dice by connecting any ETM to my vehicle then updating vehicle particulars then reading network and highlighting the ETM module.

To match what you already have you can contact MVS member doublebug and he can read and clone any ETM to any donor ETM but you must have a internet connection, a Dice and loaded drivers as well as current Dice firmware 5.6.2

You can get lucky by picking the same year, engine type and transmission when choosing a used ETM but just like life there are no guarantees
