Having blown my belt on the way home the other night, I replaced the serpentine belt today. After, the car started fine and idled, in PARK. when I put it in gear throttle response stopped and it wouldn't rise above idle (the car doesn't move). On a local repair shop's advice I disconnected the battery, waited 10 minutes, reconnected it, turned ignition switch to ON, and floored the pedal. I then started it in Park and the throttle responded normally. I moved it to reverse and throttle response stopped. When I shifted back to Park, still no throttle response. Any thoughts? Could I have moved something when I removed the power sterring reservoir? I did remove and immediately replaced the ECM cover, that was an attempt to find more room.

A footnote. I just disconnected, and reconnected, the battery, set igniotion to ON and floored the pedal, before starting . This produced normal throttle response in Park. Preparing to shift into Reverse, I stepped on the foot brake. That killed throttle response. It appears that operating the brake is the killer, not shifting into gear. Any thoughts there?

Mine is a manual thankfully....isn't the brake master pretty close to where you were working on the rear bulkhead. No idea why it would cause your symptoms....just trying to fish for things you might have disturbed when doing the belt. I did mine a while ago and it was a bit of a faff to say the least...I also had to swap out the alternator which didn't help!

Bigbrain, thanks for the reply. I see you are in the UK. I believe the master cylinder is on what we think of as the "driver's side" here. It is 5 PM here, dark and 9 Farenheit. Tomorrow, with daylight, I am going to explore connections under the hood ("bonnet"?) Yes, changing the belt was a job. I rented a serpentine belt tool kit, the only helpful part was that it included a long, flat, bar with a 3/8ths socket fitting. It did not include the Torx bit. For that, I had to dig a path through 4 feet of snow to reach my basement door. The house is 1770 and does not have an interior staircase to the basement. Oh, woe. "You get what you deserve in life".

Background. Sunday I snapped the serpentine belt. I was able to drive it home, the car behaved normally, but battery was very low when I arrived. Tuesday (yesterday) I replaced the belt. The only thing unusual that I did was remove the ECM cover for clearance, I think I may have lossened a module. When complete, the car started normally. When placed in gear it would not rev above idle. On the recommendation of local indie I disconnected battery, waited ten minutes, turned igniton to "on" and floored the pedal before starting. Car revved normally in Park, when I stepped on the brake to move into reverse it fell to idle and would not rev up in gear. Tried this again, same result. Stepping on the brake "seems" to be the key, not shifting into gear (automatic tranny). Any thoughts?
This is sort of a repost, but prior post began with refeence to serpentine belt problem. Now problem seems to be drive by wire.

do another look around the engine area to see if your belt that broke didn't damage any wires

If not a big problems for you, take the belt off and try driving it, see what happens.
If I can't fix the problem I always go back to where it started and try again especially like yours after a failed fix.

As the temp is over 30 degrees, I went out to look things over. I could not see any wires or fittings dislodged by my replaing the serpentine belt. I think I mentioned that i removed the ECM cover to gain clearance. I think I also loosened the module nearest the engine. In any case, the car starts normally and can easily be brought up to speed with the accelerator pedal. I tried holding it at 3000 rpm in Park, which I did easily. Holding it at 3000 rpm in Park and stepping on the brake pedal caused it to immediately fall to idle and remain there regardless of what was done with the accelerator pedal. Shutting it off, turning the ignition to "ON", operating the gas pedal then starting the car resulted in duplicating exactly what I just stated. As I have said, I drove the car home with a missing belt and it behaved normally. Problem began when I started it for the first time after replacing the belt. So, I assume it is related. I do have an "Engine Service Required" message, that could be belt related. I only thought to check it this morning.
