Fantastic ARD video - how to swap in a RN motor into pre 99

For those of you who have thought of swapping in a newer (99+) motor into your 1998 or older Volvo, here is an essential video by Mr. Robert Arnold ( Lucky ) of ARD tuning. http://www.ardideas.com/ This could save you many hours searching junkyards for the right parts or having to buy new parts as you forgot to get some at the yard.

Have a look !!!

What a great info video. I know a guy who fitted a 2007 V70 T5 motor to his 1998 V70AWD manual stick shift. Says it runs really well! I asked if he would do a write up, but he and his wife have just produced twins and are rather busy for now!

That is terrific! I never knew how the CVVT exhaust cam would behave without the CVVT valve being energized. Locked at 0 is terrific.

What he didn't cover much is the accessories like the power steering, alternator, and A/C compressor but Mike partially covered that (going the other way with an old motor in a newer car) in one of his threads that is in the repair database. I think I would be inclined to use the newer style accessories but the power steering pump might be a problem since it is totally different. The serpentine belt, and its routing, is also dramatically different since it is grooved on both sides.

For accessories we typically use the original power steering, alternator, and compressor along with mounting brackets and tensioners. I didn't make mention of it since it's basically a transfer of parts.... really easy.
The newer version accessories are not quite so easy to connect, primarily regarding the power steering. Of course anything can be done with some effort ;)

Cool, I wasn't sure if the mounting bracket tabs that would accept the older accessories were there on the RN version or not. When Mike went from an old engine into the newer car he had to MIG weld a tapped bracket onto the block to accept the newer accessory mounting bracket. I've had both versions of the engines out of their respective cars but never at the same time to look at them side by side.

Happy to be of service folks!

LMK if you have any specific questions or vid requests for the future. I'll be doing one on true injector flow rates next week :)
