If you're going to spend $150 on.a kit, of which $70 is markup be certain that you have 9150 or 9160 codes or P0120 or P0121.

If not just get a XeModex and be done with it.

I've done around 90 repairs on ETMs. Without them being pre-read by a scanner there is around a one in six chance of the problem being a contact sensor issue alone. Lots of permanent errors and board problems.

My growing wall of dead ETMs. Most have had the contactless repair done and did not work. I now road test all ETMs by writing my own car's firmware to it then reprogram back to customer's firmware.

The biggest issue with ETMs is not that they were a bad design. The placement in the engine was a poor thought process. Magnetti ETM has a circuit board with both power and logic sections. No cooling whatsoever and no ceramic spacers to prevent heat damage.

The placement of the power and logic boards on the unit itself while attached to a 220degF lump of hot metal was not a great idea.

The Italian engineers at Magnetti Marelli have the distinct honour of designing the only programmable piece of hardware that is attached to a Volvo engine.

In the next model Bosch's ETA was mainly a motor and two sweep sensors with the ECM (engine computer) doing honours for the operation and programming tasks.

Like all things Italian, they are beautiful even when they don't work. At least they didn't have it done by Lucas..
