Howdy all,
After finally getting my 850T Sedan running again (new plugs, all vacuum leaks repaired, etc) I now have a problem that is, Frankly speaking, a puzzlement.
It runs fine UNLESS I am making a turn from a somewhat higher elevation to a lower elevation. When I leave my subdivison, there is a turn which goes downhill. Car stalls every time.
Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? It only happens when turning, going from higher ground to marginally lower ground.
Thanks in advance for all of your brain power and expertise,
kimberly

Oh, and to be clear...this doesn't happen when going "uphill", turning or not. Thanks again.

My guess is that a sensor connector is loose or corroded or a battery wire is loose or corroded. The MAF or the cam / crank sensors are the ones that would most likely cause a stall.

As always, thank you for your advice. I had wondered if it could be that the fuel injector seals needed replacement but your input makes much more sense.
I will check them and report back.
Thanks again,
kimberly

Upon reflection, I know the MAF sensor connectors but the crank sensor. Where does one find that?

I have a random stalling issue years ago and it was due to the negative battery cable being corroded completely through down on the frame crossmember where it bolted to the block. On visual inspection it looked fine, but the cable was corroded clear through and when the car got jostled in a particular way, it lost the contact and caused a stall. You might want to trace your negative battery cable just to make sure.

best way to inspect, IMO, is at night, with a flashlight. Especially when looking closely at cables and connectors. somehow the visibility increases a lot. Somehow there is less glare from the sun/light and its easier to see.
You need to go over everything and see if anything looks odd/corroded/ect; its there somewhere.

The crank sensor is a black plug-looking device that sits atop the bell housing right above the flywheel and is viewable from the driver's side of the engine bay looking down to the trans. Its two wires are encased in a single black covering with an inline connector that is usually white. Check that for corrosion. The sensors themselves rarely fail.kimothyanne wrote:Upon reflection, I know the MAF sensor connectors but the crank sensor. Where does one find that?

Very possible the problem might be a battery cable issue since the engine moves around and the battery does not.

I had a similar issue and it ended up being a bad cable to the ignition coil. It took me all night to figure it out.

Good luck Kim! If you are still stuck we will find someone with a 1996 who can document all the grounds to look at..I think one of these is your problem
I think the 96 has the BGUB ( big ground under battery) which you have to take the battery out to see/fix. Take pix!
Remember to find your radio code before you disconnect battery or else you will only have the karaoke channel.
