aloha from Hawaii, the instrument cluster, DIM, went out on my 2002 v70, no mechanic wanted to fix it (lucky for me), and i kept driving it for another 2 months without the speedometer, gas gauge, lights working,i checked all the fuses and nothing was blown, till finally, i watched a few videos linked from this forum. the process was simple. i just removed the interior plastic covers with a butter knife, removed the four screws with a metric torx screwdriver, and unplugged the control panel. i unscrewed a few bulbs and saw that they were burned so determined that it was something internal in the component. I had contacted XMODEX, looked at the website, talked with them on the phone, and prepaid for repair of the instrument cluster, the process was very smooth, i sent it out to them they sent it back to me and i replaced the module. it's working now. if someone had a better way of doing it. i don''t know, but no one here in the islands wanted to work with it, i was amazed at how fast the repair and return time was, i guess the only way to do it cheaper would be off ebay.

yes, off ebay is cheaper - around $150 - but I had mine fixed by a tv repair shop for $50. However not all repair shops will do fine electronics, I had to shop around.
