2004.5 S40 T5 Multiple Misfires

Post by SnakMan »

Bought a used 2004.5 S40 T5 with 167,000 miles on it. Less than a month in and we go out to dinner with no issue. Get back in the car and when we start it up, its misfiring and running rough. CEL comes on flashing then stays on steady. Go to the local auto parts store and they checking the codes and it says cylinders 3,4,5 are all misfiring. Does feel like all three are misfiring or I would think it would be much rougher than it is.

Replaced all the plugs, cleaned the Mass Air Flow sensor, pulled the air filter (it has a K&N on it), cleaned it, re-oiled and put back in. Checked all the coil boots and could find no cracks. Looked at all the vacuum lines and they seem to be okay. Not sure where to go from here. Replacing the coils seems like the next step, but having doubts that 3 would go all at the same time. Not sure what to do next. Starting to regret buying this thing. :x

Bought my daughter the same car. 118000 miles. I drove it about 450 miles (got on it good a few times in manual) and got cylinder 1 and 2 misfiring. Changed plugs and boots and that solved the issue. Curious what you found to be the problem with yours?

I had the same symptoms with my vovlo s40 and two weeks after they started its now broke down in the shop with what the mechanic says is a bent valve that's going to cost according to him $2000 to fix a $12 part trying to figure out what to do.
