98 v70 rear brakes

Can anyone give me a recommendation for rotors and pads that I can get at either Napa or carquest? I need to replace these today so I don't have time to order anything and wait

Napa has akebono ceramics and either Napa rotors or brembo. I don't know about carquest. They don't show much online for my local store, but they usually have more available in the store than the online catalog shows.

Anyhow I'm looking for your service experience with what you've used.

I paired akebono ceramics with Napa ultra premium rotors on my Hyundai Sonata and they were great for about a year. Then they started pulsing. I don't usually have problems with pulsing so I think for whatever reason that pairing may have been a bad choice. It's made me a little cautious.

Not what you requested but I've been using Duralast Gold pads and AZ rotors on my 1998 V70 (and the S70 and V90 I had) for years with no problems. Further, the pads are ceramic and have a wear warranty.

Thanks. I have to do something today because the rear brakes are grinding at slow speeds. Nobody locally has everything I want/need to do a complete job so my plan now is to put on the cheapest pads available today and order what I would like to be on the car. My overall plan was to do a 4 wheel brake overhaul when the weather improves.

For today I bought the cheapest duralast pads to get me by for a few weeks ($15.99). My rotors are scored but they should be ok for a few weeks. In the meantime I can find exactly what I want and have that available for when I have time to put it on.

So, I put on the cheapest pads I could find to buy me a few months. What I learned: the hardware is shot and the rotors on one side are badly scored. The springs on both sides are broken at the rivet. The pins are ok but new would be better. Anyhow, now I have the luxury of ordering exactly what will be a good value for front and back rotors and pads. I would really appreciate any feedback. I will also do the caliper overhaul and emergency brake overhaul posted by cn90 at the same time.

Did the rotors rust much?

I bought NAPA premium (uncoated) rotors for my Honda and they were badly rusted in a week. I figured they wouldn't rust much and if they did how bad could it be? I was wrong on both counts. They work fine but they look pretty bad. The Honda and my Volvo have alloy wheels so the hat part of the rotor shows.

Quick question if I may.
I have a 98 v70 and i've been told that I need new brake pads and rotors for both front and back. The mechanic also mentioned sensors. He wants to charge over $400 for this. A quick look online makes me think this is robbery. Can anyone advise? Many thanks!

To be clear, $400 is just for parts.

400 is right for the 4 sensor parts, but unless you have an ABS code, there is no reason to replace. They aren't wear sensors, they are wheel speed sensors.

IPD sells them at about 90 USD I see.

Labour, about one hour for all four.

Scratchy, rotors and pads do cost that much (400) if they use original 'vo parts

In reality, you can get everything you need for 150-200 dollars total. (meyle rotors and the new bosch quiet cast pads are even cheaper, at IPD)

I put off doing brakes for a while... "I think Ill let the pros do my brakes, after all, they are important." I paid 600 dollars to have them done on my 850 (all 4 corners). When it came time to do my brakes on the v70, I did not hesitate: I went ahead and did the front rotors and pads myself (I payed 80 for ncie slotted Balo rotors and got some bosch pads, 110 total for the front). I am glad I did, because it was the easiest thing I ever did on my car. It is honestly easier than fixing brakes on a bicycle. There are multiple how to-s here on the site.

My advice, do the fronts yourself. Most people can get away with just doing the fronts the first time around just to learn, and then tackle the rear when its time.

If you order the parts, get the 7mm hex socket for a few bucks you will need. Also, a small tip if I can recommend one, on the front rotors, when the directions say to remove the dust covers for the hex bolt, you can leave them in place and without removing them, still get the screws out. simple stuff! 1-2 hours max.
