1999 V70 awd. no reverse

Hey out there. .i have 1999 V70 drives perfect gears shift but i don't have reverse? The Volvo mechanic said that i might not need a new transmission. .Has anyone else who had this problem?

Do you have a flashing up arrow and have you read the codes? It could be a control problem if you are lucky but control related problems typically cause the flashing up arrow and they do post error codes.
