97 850 GLT - Omega Evaporator feedback

Post by m491 »

It's starting to warm up (slowly) in my area and a long delayed project to do the evaporator for my son's AC is going to happen this spring. My question to all who have done this project is what is your experience with the Omega evaporator that FCP sells? I see some comments saying the pipes do not line up correctly and need to be bent to fit like the OEM part. For $42 versus $210 I think it might be worth a try. At the same time if I can't get the AC to work because I manhandled the pipes then the savings is so not worth it.

I will be ordering the foam around the evaporator regardless of which one I order. I think my HVAC box is pretty funky and the foam may not be reusable.

Any thoughts on the Omega is greatly appreciated.

Bending the pipes to fit the lines is no big deal - they are soft Aluminum and move easily. I had to bend mine about 2 cm or so to fit. No problems years later.

So the pipes are hand bent and they will still hold the correct shape? Some comments on FCP said how hard they are to bend so that is good news to learn.

Did you replace the O rings on the AC lines in the engine compartment and the foam on the evaporator?
