There is a big chance that you disturbed radiator fan relay or it's wiring when you did pcv system replacement recently. The wires(connections) going to it are known to be loosened or corroded, but almost always are disturbed when pcv system is serviced.

I agree. The climate in Atlanta is very hot in the summer and this car has been here for all of its life. The protective plastic covering on the wire harnesses completely fell apart in my hands when I had to move the wires to accomplish the PCV modification because it was dried out and brittle. I bought replacement covering and recovered all of the wire harnesses at the same time as the PCV overhaul.misha wrote:There is a big chance that you disturbed radiator fan relay or it's wiring when you did pcv system replacement recently. The wires(connections) going to it are known to be loosened or corroded, but almost always are disturbed when pcv system is serviced.
At the time I thought about leaving the wires alone, but decided that they were better off being protected from the heat. I did not look for corrosion at the connectors and I made no attempt to clean any of the connections. I did double check all of them to ensure the connectors were clicked together. I also put little light blue tape 'flags" on each side of the unplugged connectors so i wouldn't leave any unplugged when put it all back together.
My plan is to unplug each connection one at a time and spray each plug with electrical connector cleaner. I'll apply a dab of dielectric grease and firmly put the connection back together until it clicks.

I took a risk and bought the new relay. With the old relay the fan didn't come on and the coolant overheated pretty quickly. With the new relay installed the fan comes on almost right away and hours of driving with the AC on never pushed the temperature gauge past the 3 o'clock position.misha wrote:How did you found out, since problem with overheating didn't re-appeared even with the old relay?

Misha, I replaced the relay and everything now appears functions correctly. i put the air conditioning on yesterday and drove around for over an hour. it was a warm day here and the temp gauge stayed pegged at 3 o'clock just like its supposed to do.misha wrote:98v70dad wrote:I took a risk and bought the new relay. I just wanted to say that...in 1st post of this thread you said that radiator fan was working when you arrived home and in last post you said that, with old relay,it didn't want to work.
One second you're saying that it worked and the other second you're saying it didn't worked. So i asked did it run or didn't?
Anyway..i'm glad that problem is solved.
