Bye Bye 850

Post by Black850 »

97 850 T-5 Black with beige leather. :( GONE

So I slipped on some ice and ended up skidding my 850 into a pole. The bumper busted which led to both airbags deploying. That pretty much guarantees I'll just get cut a check.

The prospects of getting another 850 or Volvo are slim at the moment, so I am very sad. This was my first car at 16 and now 6 years later it's gone. If I get any pictures, I'll make sure to post em up here and will probably keep visiting the site anyway cuz it's a great site.

How bad is the bumper crashed in? Is the frame bent? If these are repairable/replaceable, the airbags on these cars aren't that bad. You will have to pay the dealer to reset the SRS light.
You know, there are alternatives to totaling the car due to the airbags: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Volvo-85 ... enameZWDVW
You can buy the different airbags individually as well on eBay and other places such as www.erievovo.com That is if you really love this car and want to hang on to her.

why dont you post pics.. most of this stuff is easy to come by.. but T5's arent that easy to come by.

If the frame isnt bad then you jsut might want to rebuild it make it better and faster(playing "6 million dollar man" theme song!)

Here's some pics (couldn't get thumbnails to work):

Now for a question. On the first pic, there's 2 circular objects in front of the radiator. What are they and their importance? I'm looking at an 850r at the moment and it only has one present and I wanted to know what it is.

Thanks

The circular objects are your horns. I refuse to use a car horn under almost any circumstance because, around here, it will get you shot dead. In the scheme of things, low importance.

The car looks very repairable. Tell your insurance company I'll give them US $50.00 cash. :D

here is what i see:

airbags..left and right.
dash
winshield
hood
grill
header panel (might not need it if its only the horn mountings)
bumper cover
bumper assembly.

I think if you can find a parts car you should be able to replace most of this yourself except the winshield.

If you mean in the middle, these are your horns. Really, besides some body work and the airbags (not very expensive on eBay), this isn't as bad as I thought. You could very easily get this up to par again.

Already got the cash and sent the car to auction. I'm basically looking at other 850's to buy. I was asking about those "circular objects" because I'm currently looking at an 850r which is missing one of the horn mountings, so I just wanted to see its importance.

Definitely going through withdrawals though, as that 850 was my first car and spent 6 years with me. I've found a good number of 850's, but owning a top end model in the last model year it's tough to look at other year turbos.

For example, I found a great '95 850 turbo. Essentially everything mine had, but the passenger seat wasn't power and no fog lights. Important? not really... but you can't ever replace the first!

EDIT: Also not shown... while the car was sitting in the tow-yard for a couple days someone decided to try and get into the car through the sunroof by bending back the metal behind the sun roof (Didn't get in cuz the sun roof is protected). Pushed back a good amount of metal and chipped off a lot of paint, so that would've been another repair. Never popped the hood either as it was wedged shut and already decided to take the cash. So any engine damage was not known.

There was no engine damage...maybe radiator. I am suppriesed that airbags deployed. And how the windshield got damaged? From the airbag?

Probably true, but you never know if the block was cracked, etc. The windshield damage was just from force of impact.
