2003 V40 Transmission filter blocked

Post by volvogrl15 »

 My 2003 v40 turbo volvo wagon, jerked and lunged while driving for a good while in gear 1 & 2 in stop and go traffic only. On cool days no jerking drove like a dream! On last day of function, cranked drove, and then just stopped pulling forward engine remained on no other issues or burning smells, just won't move. Turned off sat for an hour, then cranked drove, stopped moving forward again after a short while days later. Is this a blocked filter in transmission pan?

Check for fault codes.
Could be shift solenoid problems?
Have you checked the transmission fluid level and is it reasonably clean?

You won't have a filter inside the transmission at all but there may be an inline filter setup on your oil cooler return hose. (i.e. magnafine filter)

There is in fact a filter at the base of transmission but is not accessible unless casing is split and there is no pan. It won't be blocked as it's purpose is to collect sediment and it doesn't impede fluid flow regardless of contamination.

Sounds like a fluid change/fluid level check may be your last hope before sending it in for a rebuild.
