Our 2000 v70 just hit 251,000 miles, has only has routine maintenance and a sensor here and there. We've got a 91 240 with over 400,000 miles but those engines are in a league of their own. That being said the 5 cyl are super reliable and durable if taken care if. Neglecting maintenance and ignoring things is generally what seams to cause the majority of problem.

223K on the S70 owned since new. Always synthetic oil and Mann filters. Runs perfect--no codes--looks beautiful. But after all the parts/sweat I've poured into suspension, drive train, and brakes this past year, it better have it's loins girded up for the dash to 300k.

I bought a 98 s70 with 233k on it about 5 years ago for parts. After getting it home I found out all it needed was an intercooler hose, so I replaced that and did a bunch of other things. I sold it to a coworker for 1400ish as it had a salvage title, he has about 300k on it as of now.

The irritating thing is that he won't ask for help/advice when it needs something. It could be in better shape if he did.

Update on the '98 I had/have. She limped home on her last day on 3 cylinders and still did 70 on the interstate. Has 331,000 miles and never saw the transmission oil change I promised her. I think burnt valves due to worn valve seals did her in.
To much $$$$ and to worn to fix in my book.

Was the coolant level low?

Anywho, I seen a 850 with over 500,000 miles about 8 years ago. Mine now has 273,000.

The 98 V70R I bought has just under 400,000kms (248k miles) and the only reason the head was removed for the first time was a seized timing pulley. Replaced the valve stem seals and about 14 valves while I was in there.
Still not legally on the road due to needing a new windscreen and headlight lenses so the miles aren't adding daily. No smoke and drives well.

My 2000 V70 just ticked over 313,000kms (194k miles) and feels and goes great. Only needs 1 quart oil top-up every 3,000kms.

Our 2002 XC70 has 302,000kms and should see 350,000kms before I spend any more money. Oil consumption is very low.

Robert,
If that question was for me, about the coolant level being low, new radiator was installed about 2 months ago. That's when everything started going down hill.

I have 257,000 miles on my '95 850 2.3l turbo, no major repairs, no smoke, good compression, good power. I can do 30+ mpg on the interstate if I drive it carefully. The only "issue" I have is oil drippage out of the turbo. I think an O ring as gotten hard and just isn't sealing any more. I purchased a turbo rebuild kit but haven't put it in yet. The oil leaves a few drops on my garage floor and I drive the car a lot so I am putting up with the minor leak for now...
