If it is newish, it is old stock. I don't believe they make the pulley's with the missing teeth anymore.

Robert,

I saw your video on youtube which got me thinking about checking for the date stamp. My TB looks newish and the pump looks brand new so I went looking for the date stamp. As you can see my date stamp looks different than your AISIN pump in the video. My guess is the top number is the year and the bottom number is the month. Just checking to see if anyone can verify that assumption.

I've only changed the TB and tensioner because the car had low miles, but is it that difficult to change the WP. The bolts look accessible although tight so just unbolt, clean and replace? Or is it hard to access.

It is a moderate pain to clean the surface but not bad. Bolts are easy to access like you said. I always take off the serp tensioner when I am doing a water pump, so easy to do and gives you a little more space overall to work in there.

If the pump is original or has been installed by someone with a good brain, the gasket almost totally comes off with the pump. What is left almost falls off. The surface doesn't have to be spotless, the new seal/gasket swells when it gets wet. NO NEED FOR GASKET MAKER. PLEASE CUT THAT OUT!!! LOL

If you have no WRITTEN history, just replace it. Nothing like doing what I had to do, change the water pump on the side of the road. Clean doesn't = new.

You have a Volvo branded pump on a 115k engine: there is zero reason to change it out. You can go *at least* to 140k, probably to 200 k.

mecheng… I am not afraid the change the pump once I get in there. What I am really after is getting a feel for when the timing belt was done. If I can verify that the water pump is from 2012 then I'm not going to worry about the belt until I get to 140,000 miles so I can be on schedule. I can look at the car fax and determine that the car had about 102k on it in april of 2012. If the pump was done in 4/12 then the belt was certainly done then as well. It's definitely not an original belt.

I had a look at my wp: it has 81 / 07

81 on top and 07 on bottom. So I'm not sure how to read the date codes

I’ll snap pictures of two pumps I have and post - from the purchase history I can say these are dated YY MM

These are both AISIN, with the Volvo Metal casting machined off.
