2005 v70 stick oil change filter, mpg report, city driving

Post by abscate »

Cruising around a big NYC -PVD-BOS-ALB loop of 1000 miles at 31 mpg in 10F weather, priceless.

Spending one hour in 15 F driveway trying to put my 1999 oil filter into the 2005 housing, educational.

I've found the 3rd gear on my 2005 is magical...the car will drive anywhere between 5 mph and 45 in this gear. Excellent on The I93 Boston afternoon parking lot.

Somehow I managed to mislabel my 1999 and 2005 filters and grabbed the wrong one from the parts locker when I went to do that job.

I'm running 0W-40 Mobil one full synthetic, car uses no oil between changes.

Not supposed to use a 0 weight oil in these engines, use 5w 30 or 40

The Mobil 1 0W-40 is actually remarkably close in operating characteristics to a 5w-30 oil.

Impressive mileage - equally impressive that you can go that slow in 3rd without the car fighting you. If you dip too low in RPM, the Cruze won't let you fight back from it - it just shuts off. Mildly annoying when you misjudge 2nd gear.

Did I get this wrong?

IPD says these cars use the same oil filter, the hole looked different size to me but today I realized there is a flexible seal on the Mahle filter that isn't on the Mann filter.

Are 1999 and 2005 oil filters the same??

Lasy time I checked they were. FCP say the same thing in their listings.

I don't see a flexible seal on my OX-149D that I have in stock here.

Got a pic for us?

I use the same filters in 5 cylinder 99-2009 in P80 and P2, P1 and P3 5 cylinders use the topside filter canister and is different. This is gasoline. Diesels are a different story.

I had trouble snapping one of them into the car, and IPD warns you on their web site that it takes a healthy push to put it on. It's like these guys know these cars, or something

:D :D

Pix today.

60 F and keeping speed between 60-65 yielded 36.3 mpg on computer today...

Had the same experience the other day when replacing my wife's XC70 oil filter. I thought that the new Dorman filter canister's threads were wrong for the car until I realized they weren't reaching the engine because I hadn't seated the Mahle filter properly.

The Dorman filter canister is slightly undersize for a 86mm 16 sided tool so I had to improvise by wrapping some aluminium flashing around it to compensate.
