This is my first post, but have been a spectator for years.
I picked up S70 advertized as an "1999 S70 GLT manual w/ T5 wheels" for a parts car. It had a bottom end rod knock so I did not do any research into anything other than the M56 trans to keep as a spare for my 98 V70 T5M. Looked at the title and it said 2000 and did not think to much of it. Today I pulled the engine/ trans and figured that I would also keep the turbo. I cleaned off the ID tag and boom TD04HL-16T! "Cool" I thought, "I just got a spare turbo as well." Then saw the B5234T3 sticker on the timing cover and it clicked that this was a 2000 S70 T5M factory car. So I researched the production numbers and they are lower than my 98 V70 T5M. I drove the car with the knock but everything was smooth. Now I realize someone might really want this thing if it put an engine in it and spruce it up. It has 198,xxx miles and is in overall good rebuild-able shape. Anyone have any information on if I can use this trans in my 98 in my sig? Should I sell it in parts to aid fellow enthusiasts or rebuild the car? Is this a desirable Volvo?
2000 S70 T5 Manual, is this a rare Volvo to part out?

No GLTs got three pedals in the US market. It seems kind of like an ideal combination, though.
I don't think the M56 in the turbo cars is any different than those in the regular 5spd cars, so if you're looking for parts there's no particular reason to take the transmission out of a turbo car. (If you do part it out, those axles will be gold - '99+ T5Ms have pretty rare axles, since the outboard side changed for all cars in '99 and the inboard side changed for the five-speed automatic in '00.)
T5Ms aren't common cars, but while I was hunting down my wagon I saw several T5M sedans come and go. I also don't believe there's anything particularly special about the 2000s vs the 98s that would make the lower production numbers a notable point. The '99s saw the big switch to the ETM-equipped Bosch engine management system; '00s were largely a holdover except for the five-speed automatic, which the car you've got doesn't have. Nobody's really lusting after an '00 over a '98 or '99. If anything, people seem to prefer '98s for their cable throttles.

You can buy a used M56 for 500-600 from Erie VoVo, who have a solid reputation for parts.
There are always buyers here for stick shifts but I don't think it's an investment.
Fix that motor and enjoy it.

So you are the one who bought it. I was close to pulling the trigger on it but I already have 5 cars for 2 drivers. It just so happens that I have a great running engine in a parts car that would drop right into it behind my mother's barn up in Kearney.
If you want to pull the engine I can make you a smoking deal on it - I just don't have the time to do it myself. The parts car is a '99 but I'm pretty sure the replacement engine I put into it before it was wrecked was a 2000. There are some minor differences in the lifters between the two years but they are plug and play exchangeable.

I appreciate the prompt responses. I would like to rebuild the car and not see it get dismantled. What kind of deal on the engine were you thinking? Please PM details so we can get a deal all squared away.

If you put a deal together on an engine, I might be able to help you guys get it from Erie in Utica NY out to points from Boston to Chicago. I travel those routes a lot and could move it on the cheap....as I call it, "Milgram shipping"
