2000 C70T5 drivers window won't operate

Post by Kulu »

Can any one help please.
I have a 2000 C70 2.3 T5 coupe and the driver's window will not operate. I have all the gear and no idea how to trace this problem in the correct manner, I don't want to jump into buying a new door switch when it could be the motor. Has anyone got the best way to begin resolving this problem.
Thanking you all in anticipation.

Chances are it is the switch and not the motor but you can use a voltmeter to test it. The schematics for the car are here:

The pagination is all messed up due to the way they were scanned but they are fairly complete.

Cheers Lee, I did take the switch to bits to understand how it works but as I was on a superstore carpark I didn't bother checking it, will check the diagrams and test it later

It's almost certainly the switch Kulu

You might be able to move the plugs from one switch to another and get your driver window working by sacrificing the operation of the other window

Unfortunately the front and rear plugs have a different profile and can't be swapped.

In UK and other RHD countries there's a unique number for driver's door switch. Also certain C70 years used switch as signal and high current switching occurred in relays; not sure if this happened in 2000MY. Can you apply power directky to window motor to check it?

A 4 position switch from an S/V 70 will fit in the hole and accept the wiring plug from the C70. Only the 2 front window switches will work, but that could be an easier piece to find to do the test.

It is only a 2 door, the driver's side has a console with c/locking and 2 window switches, the plug cannot be swopped as it is all one piece. Glad aircon is working as it is getting warmer here.
Thanks for all the input on this, I will get to it over the weekend.

On mine the switch can be removed from the door panel and unplugged from the wiring harness. That harness plug can be inserted into one of the two female receptacles on a 4 door switch. That will make 2 of the 4 switches operational for testing. That 4 door switch will fit in the door panel hole that the original came out of until you find a correct replacement.

I removed the switch and dismantled it taking note of how the connections are made, cleaned them up and made them so there was more pressure on them, replaced and now only the central locking works. Even the passenger door one does not work now so I suspect the fuse/circuit breaker under the fuses could be the problem, will check it later today

You probably fouled up the switch.
Just get a known good one.
