2002 V70 b4 servo over question

Post by Jlewis2005 »

I have a question about the b4 servo cover update. I did mine a few weeks ago because I was experiencing shift flares on the 2-3 up shift and when I did it I noticed that the piston didn't have a spring behind it like the instructions said it would. Do not all transmissions have the spring or is this something I should be concerned with? I have tried talking to two different volvo dealers and they have no idea what I'm talking about when I mention the b4 servo cover so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

From previous VW tranny work, the spring pushes the piston back to home position, so it should be there. Hopefully someone with Vida can post a exploded view of the assembly.

I did mine and it had the spring. Changing this servo cover solved my 2-3 shift flare problem completely. I had a complete fluid flush and software update done before I changed the servo cover, but it did not help much. When we were changing the servo cover we found a loose washer and thought maybe we should put that back in. It turns out, that washer is the problem, it comes loose and gets bent and interferes with the operation of the piston. The new design has the washer held in place by a circlip.

How about where to buy the spring? I have looked for them online but I haven't had any luck finding it. If someone has a junk tranny lying around I would buy the spring off of you, thanks for the replies!
