No PCV Clog, No Vacuum, Bad Turbo?

Post by Peace562 »

Hello Everyone,
I have a Question regarding the PCV, Turbo, and The Oil Leaks Rssulting from a Bad Vacuum.

First off, I bought this 2000 Volvo S40 1.9T with 160k.
After about 3 weeks of no Problems. I started to get a Click coming from the Exhaust Cam sprocket and then a Subsequent leak from the respective cam seal.
So I went in and replaced the Gear and seal. Albeiit with a Used Cam gear.

After the leak returned I took it in to an Indy Volvo service shop where they told me That Besides the bad seal I had Positive crankcase pressure. They said this pressure was causing oil to get pushed past the seals and getting into the T Belt and Gears, which ran the risk of slipping and Bending Valves. So After being quoted 2k To do all the work I decided to go the DIY way.

So I dismantled the Intake And Got into the breather box I found the ports Not really clogged there was a small amount of Gunk in the bottom port but nothing to the point where air flow could be restricted. I still gave it a good cleaning. Same with the hoses, replaced the breather box. I then went ahead and replaced the cam seal again, huge Pain. After all that I still don't have a Vacuum. Or at Least it's only a Partial Vacuum, a rapid intermittent vacuum as Shown in this YouTube Vid I Posted. .
I did some air flow tests by disconnecting the hoses that go to the intake manifold and to the the Turbo/PTC. What I discovered is that when I leave the Blow By Hose connected to the Intake Manifold and disconnect the PTC Hose, hold and put my thumb over it I feel suction, if I cover the ptc end of the hose with My Thumb I get full Vacuum, the way I know is because I attached a piece of Nitrile glove over the Oil dipstick and observed the suction occur when I covered the Hose with My Thumb.
So I checked The Airflow at The cold air intake for the turbo and Got a Very weak Suction, almost immeasurable. So is this then not a PCV issue but a Turbo Issue? What is the solution? Been at this problem since January.

I'm having a similar problem, I have No Vacuum at the Turbo inlet.... I can only assume that the Turbo isn't sucking enough air to create a vacuum there.?
