1998 v70XC erratic idle stalls but starts right back up.

Post by mattmatt »

hello everyone i am in great need of help. 1998 v70xc started idling rough a month or so ago. ive tested the mass mete, fuel pressure, compression, and ignition. it will just start buck with no throttle response and when i pull over it dies. it will start right up and it might not mess up for a half hour or so. i have a parts car here and i have swapped EVERYTHING i think could cause the issue and no change. i later found that the positive battery cable was loose. i tightened it and all was well for about a week. now its back again. the only DTC is for the heater and signal of the front o2 sensor. that code has been there for years. ive changed it with new bosch 2 years ago and the code always comes back. so i doubt that is the issue. pleae anyone help very desperate.

Have you tested or changed your fuel relay by chance? I had a similar issue with my XC and that's what it turned out to be.

sorry to not get back sooner but yes i have replaced the fuel pump relay as well with a new one from kaehler. here is a new twist on the issue. i drive about 7 miles to work each day and like clock work i get the stalling issues at the same spot every morning on my way in. ill be going along and you can feel a stumble. so you go to give it gas and no acceleration. i pull over and the car is barely running. i shut it off restart it and voila its ok enough to get to work. it also does it on my way home at the same spot. each time it dies is bout a half mile either from my work or house. it is up to temp in about 5 min so i dont think the temp sensor is causing poor fuel mixture.

You might want to check the fuel relay again to see if its faulty, the first kaehler unit I put into mine cooked itself in two months thanks to a manufacturing defect. It took me ages to figure that out since I thought my "new" relay could not possibly be the issue.
