'04 V70 T5 Compatible Engines

Post by JeffHicks »

So I picked up this '04 V70 T5, with 203,000 miles. Got it for basically salvage yard price, but the body is in immaculate condition, and it has brand new Michelins all the way around.

It has a cracked radiator, which is pretty straightforward. Just replace it. It also has a badly leaking head gasket - even pushing coolant outside the engine. I know it's possible that the head might be warped.

So I'm pondering replacing the head gasket - which is going to run me at least $350 - or trying to find a complete engine to install. Good used engines seem to run pretty close to $1,000 - give or take.

My question is this: My engine is a B5234T3. Serial #3167885. Can I use a 2.3 Turbo from other year models, or am I stuck finding one from a 2004 within this serial number range?

If you do the labor yourself I'd attempt to fix current engine, at least pull head and measure block for warpage.

I'm doing my own work, and am definitely wanting to just replace the head gasket if that is possible. But if not...

The 2003 plus cars have CVVT on both cams however I'm not aware of any changes up to 2009 on the S60s if they were a T5 model. (same engine)
