2004 XC Wagon Car pausing when accerating

Hi all. A month or two ago I bought a new (used) XC WAGON. I had a 2001 XC, this newer one is a 2004. I was very excited to find one with the low miles of 80,000. This one does not appear to have as much power as my 2001. Not only that, but when I accelerate at lower speeds, it sometimes feels like it pauses. Strangely, my husbands brand new ford explorer does the same thing. I am not sure if there is actually something wrong, or if I was just used to the power of my 2001.
Was/is there a difference between 2001 and 2004 re power and pickup?

2004 has more mighty engine than 2001. Something is wrong with yours.

I had this 'pause' when the spark plugs had the incorrect gap. I would pull them out and inspect the gap (not just replace them right away because this way is easy to spend too much money). I would then look at the fuel filter if yours has one (most models don't have a serviceable such filter).

And perhaps have an independent garage read the error codes. Be aware that with such older vehicle, visiting the main dealer can prove very expensive and not always efficient.

Also check to see if there is any air leakage between turbo charger and the throttle body, best way would be is to smoke the system, I had a small hole in one of the tubes and it was running great and was only noticeable under heavier acceleration
