This is a very intermittent issue. When driving at slow speeds, usually when approaching a car park and turning in, sometimes there is a loud sound I hear through the cabin which is difficult to describe, but its a vibrating sound, like something metal has jammed but as soon as I touch the brakes, the noise goes and the abs/tracs lights come on.
Then when the car is stopped, and started, the abs/tracs lights goes off after 10 seconds.
In general the brakes work fine, no general noises or squeaks or shudders or pulsating through the pedal.
Any ideas of what the issue could be?

It could be a dirty wheel sensor. The fronts are easy enough to clean but for the rears you need to remove the brake drums to get to them which is a bit of a pain.
At the end of the day, unless it has been rebuilt already, the most likely problem is the ABS module itself. They have a 100% failure rate but they are easily rebuilt for a reasonable price. I'm not sure what the UK price is (+VAT and so on) but in the US the service is typically under $100.00.

Another place to look at is the parking brake cables and the shoes. The cables bind and the shoes can de-laminate with age. So while you are looking at the abs sensors, check the parking brake assembly.
Also check the condition of your drive axles that nothing is wrong like the cv boots are split or the shafts are seizing when turning.

This as Lee says is often one of the top contenders for ABS/TRACS issues.

Just an update as I finally got round to having an inspection and couldn't find any broken parts or damage to brakes/cv boots/sensors etc so am going to inspect the module from the bonnet and likely I will just get the module sent off for repair.
