97 850 GLT Drivers side heat is always on

Post by wlutz »

The drivers side heat is always full on and no air flow to the feet. My new AutoLink AL319 does not find any Diagnostic Trouble Codes. My scanner performs well with live engine data so I have confidence it works...why no trouble codes? Thanks for your help...wlutz.

The climate unit doesn't talk to OBD-II devices. You need to build a flash code reader to get to it on a '97 unless you have a Volvo Scan Tool or a VCT-2000.

Instructions are in this link:

Chances are you have a stuck damper door though.

Flash reader needed for Electronic Climate Control or ECC. If you have Manual Climate Control, or MCC, you probably have a loose cable or broken actuator.

In these cars, the heater core is always full flow, so if a damper door malfunctions, you get hot feet

Built a flash reader and got the following codes: 211, 235, 321, 322, 325, 414. First I used pins 3, 5, and 16 on the OBD2 connector to read the codes...found out that pins 5, 6, And 16 are for the ECC CODES. Now I can get to work. Thanks again for all the help...wlutz
