1998 v70 Proper Jacking, For Rear Wheel

Hello there,

Can anyone describe the best way to jack this car ?
The manual is a bit vague on how this works, showing some sort of 'pin' in the middle of the vehicle that looks like the whole side of the car is supposed to be lifted just for one wheel.
This is not the AWD, it is just FWD (front wheel drive).

You do lift the whole side with the mid-car jack point on FWD models

AWD models have an additional jackpoint in rear.

Wait for the low profile Pittsburg jack to go on sale at Harbor Freight - then buy/order it - you won't use your car jack again...

Thanks, but they have a lot of jacks at Harbor Freight so which one you mean?
Also, how do you place a non standard jack under the car?
The car manual is of absolutely no use for the FWD model with a non standard (came with the car) jack.

Scissor?
Bottle?

Actually i have a bottle jack, but was looking at the Harbor Freight floor jacks and maybe one of those in the future.
I also have a scissor jack.
There has to be some way to use jack stands too right? That would just be too nutty if that was not possible, after all the garage has to use the 'lift' to raise the car for work on it.

So under the bolt is good then?

I saw the little metal 'pin' on the bracket under the car in the center of the two tires, under the door. In the manual it looks like it sticks out toward the side of the car but really it runs parallel to the doors. I guess that means the original jack connects to that pin?
Seems kind of strange to have to jack up the WHOLE side of the car just to change ONE tire

I use the same points as shown by abscate when using my trolley jack.

For axle stands was trying to find a decent picture but could only find this from a 1997 850 estate

but i assume they be the same area for the v70? as for my S70 that is where the front axle stands go.

The nice thing about lifting the entire side is the ability to stick jack stands under it and change two wheels at once, or swap tires front-to-back.

Hello again,

Today i tried jacking the car using the standard OEM jack that comes with it. It looks a little small, but it seems to work. Not nice though, because the arm that swings around (scissor jack crank arm) touches the ground when it swings low, so you cant keep your hand on it the whole time...very dumb for sure. You have to swing it around, then sort of let go and push the crank over a little until the hand handle clears the ground, then turn about 300 degrees, then let go again, etc., until the car gets up high enough so that the crank handle clears the ground, but it never works very well. It does lift the car though, so at least i can change the tire if needed.
I guess i'll have to look into another jack, and wow, there is not much clearance under that thing. Very low to the ground. I can see that my bottle jack would never fit under there, so that's out already. I dont know about my scissor jack, but that's only made for light cars anyway so maybe that's not a good idea either.
Maybe i'll try it at some point, but i really dont want to damage anything under there.
