new to the forum. I have a 1998 v70xc, first volvo i have owned and plan always having a volvo. I live in portland oregon so ipd is less then 5 miles from my home. anyway this is my problem...
Drive the car all the time with no problems, a few days ago after 50 miles of driving i stopped for coffee, got back in the car and it turns over revs to 1500rpm then dies. now everytime i start the car it does the same thing. If i hold the throttleto the floor the car will run but very poorly, when you let off the throttle the car dies. no check engine light is on.
what i have done...
fuel preasure @rail 43psi
pulled injectors and they are shooting fuel
pulled plugs they are black, cleaned and put back in
replaced antana ring
replaced tps
replaced fuel injector relay
any ideas?

How does the distributor cap look? A rear cam seal leak can foul the cap with oil and that can come on suddenly which is how you describe the onset. The fuel pressure is good which is great news with an XC.

thanks for the reply ill check tomorrow and let you know. the cap and rotor are about 1 year, so i didnt even bother checking. but considering the amount of oil leaking from my rear cam seal, this seams like a good lead. thank you Lee. ill let you know what i come up with

Check the antenna ring by the ignition switch, that apparently can cause your symptoms.

That was my first thought as well but the North American version of the '98 model doesn't have a chipped key.Cees Klumper wrote:Check the antenna ring by the ignition switch, that apparently can cause your symptoms.

The tittle says 1998 but the manufacture date is late so it does have the antana ring and the key is chipped. Going to check the cap and rotor now. No engine codes. ill keep everybody posted. thanks

Pull the plugs and inspect. While you are doing this, have a look at the Idle AIr Control valve and hoses - when these split you get a massive idle air leak and poor running.
