Same thing, but it has to be for the exact same model and engine specification as your car to have the possibility of being a plug and play solution.

I knew that as far as it being a plug and play, but I could still get it re-programmed at the dealership correct?

Not true about the same model.
In my experience the turbo P80 firmware can be compatible with P2 turbo firmware. They often share the same network configuration (software part numbers) when viewed in Vida under Diagnosics-Communication-Network.
These are the only two variants in the Volvo range that seem to share the firmware.
I placed a P80 turbo ETM in my own P2 XC70. No problems
The XC70s at the pick and pull can save you hundreds. Of course I can't guarantee they will suit.
The TEST FOR COMPATABILITY CAN BE DONE BEFORE FULL INSTALL.
Just plug the ETM into the connector and turn ignition on. If the ETM turns on, does the high pitch sound and then turns back off YOU HAVE A FIRMWARE MATCH. If it continues to whine with ignition ON it is NOT A MATCH.
If the guys at the pick and pull will let you return it after plugging it in at the car park you can keep trying other ones until you get a match.
JUST MAKE SURE THE THROTTLE FLAPS ARE FREE TO OPERATE OVER THEIR FULL RANGE OF MOVEMENT.
If you have a Vida/Dice setup MVS member doublebug can remote in and progtam ANY ETM to your car's needs.
I have 3 years experience repairing and fitting ETMs and have supplied over 120 of them to the Aussie and New Zealand market.

I just found a Xemodex on eBay but I need to know quick if it matters that it was for a non-turbo? Mine is turbo and I know I'll have to get it programmed, but is it the same part or do they make different parts for turbo vs non-turbo???

Same part number suits 10 different models read my thread above.
Was it from a non turbo P2 or non turbo P80?

If it was from a S60 or V70 P2 it would NOT SUIT. The S80 shares the same part number as yours.

Just to be sure, can you look at this? I'm sorry...I really don't want to spend the money if it won't even work for my car. I do appreciate all of your help!

The part is the right part number for your car however it was programmed for an S80 so it will suit your car ONLY after reprogramming.
This one is already programmed to suit your car and it already has a contactless DAS just like a XeModex. You can tell by the shape of the end sensor and also only CONTACTLESS endcaps say Volvo on them.

Found a really clean looking ETM at the junkyard today on a wrecked version of my car only it's 2001. Here's hoping it works. I also doped out and pulled two lock actuators from the front driver and passenger sides since my front passenger and rear driver actuators are going out...didn't think to ask first if I can use a front driver actuator for the rear driver side. I guess I have a spare when I need it
