2000 S80 Steering wheel airbag

Post by christophervolvos80 »

I wanted to change my airbag/steering wheel to a different color than the one I have. However the one I wish to buy seems to have a a second pinout/connector that I do not have a connection for in my current set up. I only have a green pinout/connector that comes out of the clockspring. If I use the steering wheel airbag that I would like that has two pinouts/connectors (green and magenta), will the airbag work if I only have a single green pinout to connect? Is this compatible and what is the second magenta pinout connector for?

I might state the obvious, but I believe it is illegal to do such replacement by yourself. I'm thinking if there's an accident, the driver will get hurt/die if anything goes wrong. At least, it will be nice to switch back to the original when selling the vehicle. Not meant to be moralistic 8)

I did not know that but if I do sell it I can switch it back. I suppose I can keep my original airbag but with the newer used steering wheel. Thanks for the info.

is it really that important to go fooling around with a critical component such as this?

When i purchased the steering wheel on ebay, it came with the airbag (seller did not want to sell separate). Was not my intention to replace the airbag but rather to swap steering wheels for a better condition/color. Upon looking at the back of the airbags I noticed the differences. I was just asking if anyone knew why there were differences between the two airbags when there is only a 5 year difference between the two air bags. And yes as of now, I have my original airbag attached to the replacement steering wheel.
Thanks,
