Post by bobbylou1 »

help does anyone have some pics or a diagram of the vacuum hose connections on a volvo v70 xc turbo , just pulled and re installed intake, now hard start, skipping, and a hose directly on the top of the intake ,like 3/8 is collapsing under vacuum, before a little black box with 3 hoses was clicking while engine was running smooth, now no ticking/clicking? i need some pics or diagram.

Google "volvo xc70 vacuum diagram" and switch to images - there are plenty of schemes/screenshots/photos.

The vac hose that goes into intake between cyl's 2/3 comes from the T connector resting on top of starter and has a 1 way valve in line with arrow pointing to manifold. Make sure check valve has correct orientation.

i got it running smooth again after removing each coil pack and cleaning the water and degreaser i used earlier from the spark plug sockets , they were full of water! it took a while to smooth out, i hope i didn't damage any coil packs, The bad thing is i still got oil vapor coming from the oil fill tube! and oil fill hole! a lot!bubbles on dip stick and no oil pressure warning light. when i pull the pcv tube from the top of the valve cover its not drawing any air? I cleaned the oil trap,

wasnt very dirty and reinstalled it, im not sure if the pcv system is working correctly, i would like to figure this part out before i pull the pan and replace the orings, can no oil pressure light be caused by bad pcv system? "foamy oil". This is a nice car that was given to me after setting up for about 2 years because the previous owner could not get the engine lights off so he gave up and parked it.So far i have replaced the turbo intercooler connection pipe "2-2.25 rubber reducer" it was blown, changed the oil and filter, removed the intake and clened the oil trap and all associated hoses and replace any powdery rubber hoses.Im not sure where to go from here? HELP. 131000 MILES.

Being just curious, I cut one oil trap to see what's inside. I can tell you, it's impossible to clean it.

Buy a new PCV kit, it is a worth spent $300.

Also if PCV was terribly clogged, you have to drop the pan and clean return oil passage: impossible to clean it from outside due to geometric configuration of the passage.

My 2005 XC70 turned 130k just yesterday. PCV was replaced 2.5 years ago at 79k...

If the car lost oil pressure you could have major engine damage that will turn this into a big project. Once you put fresh oil in, a bad PVC won't turn on your oil light.

Is your oil foamy and milkshake like? That's coolant in the oil....another bad sign.

The PVC on the P2 cars ( and lateP80s) doesn't clog as much as the older P80 ( pre 1999) Volvos as it is heated by coolant

I checked the oil return passage, with low air a pressure ,could hear the oil bubbling in the pan.there is no coolant in the oil ,just small bubbles on dip stick, again I have no vacuum on pcv ,oil trap is clear,NO VACUUM. I am prepared to drop the pan if I need to.

OK this afternoon i disconnected the vacuum hose from the banjo bolt to the oil trap its clear to the oil trap but when i connect a short length of tubing to the banjo bolt "its like 1/8 inch I.D" and try to blow into the intake with the engine off i can't, even with 90 p.s.i ,then with the engine running there is no vac coming from banjo bolt, is there supposed to be? I ran a short length of wire into the banjo bolt barb and a lot of crud came out, I really dont want to pull this intake again to clean the banjo bolt if it dont need it.please help.

All right now, after fabricating a banjo bolt wrench from a harbor freight 11/16 open end wrench I was able to remove the banjo bolt and found it clogged with carbon, the tube part not the bolt itself.cleaned it. put it back together now i have vacuum to crankcase the sumbitchin oil trap was pretty clean after all.pulling the intake was a waste, the bango bolt can be remove with a 11/16 open end wrench and reinstalled with only thermostat housing and hose removed ,dipstick also.

now i got vacuum to the crankcase, warning shut engine off no oil pressure light is on. so removed the bastard ass oil pan and installed new o'rings the o'ring from the oil filter housing return line was gone disintegrated in the pan , i suspect this was the mf ing problem ,anyway reinstalled the pan , make sure you mark the bolt to the transmission cooler lines bracket! somehow mine grew a 1/4 inch longer now is not tight.ok . cylinder 5 misfire , new coil pack advance auto 46 dollars ,runs good, now cylinder 5 misfire, new coil pack off ebay 16 dollars runs good, now check engine emissions small leak, replaced gas cap light off for 2 days.
