Morning all,
I am preparing for a cross country road trip in my awesome 98 V70XC. I have performed almost all of Stage 0 except cleaning the intercooler and injectors. Planning on the intercooler next week and the turbo coolant Intake pipe.
Here is a list of what I have completed or about to...
* NA Cam shafts
*NA Throttle body
*NA Manifold
*new Fuel pump
*new tires
*brake pads and rotors
*brake lines - next week
*Emergency brake cable- next
*coolant reservoir
*radiator
*heater core
Also the head was rebuilt two years ago.
Am I over looking anything to make the XC an adventure worthy wagon?
Thank you for any insight.

Is it still AWD?
Did you have to do the SAS delete?
Not that any of these matter much to your trip.
A cool thing to find, would be a T-5 ECU since you have done the N/A manifold, throttle body mod.
I found one, and it automatically deleted the SAS. I believe it will give it different boost mapping, and the car now runs and idles fine after also cleaning the MAF.
I have an extra N/A manifold, and a few good throttle bodies. Some white injectors as well.
I imagine that will all come together when I do the PCV on this one.
The N/Mod was done on my '96 wagon a year and a half ago.

The drive shafts is out at the moment. The VC works but the front CV joint went bad and I'm ordering a replacement soon. The SAS delete is on my list.

I used to keep a spare relay in the glove box. I also intend to take a spare ignition coil and fuel pump and now the relay, even though I replaced them. The coolant return above the heat shield was the first thing I replaced due to a tiny pin hole. Thanks for the advice.

For long trips that I drive 400-500 miles/day, I have done the math.
It is cheaper to rent a car for let's say $30/day.
The wear/tear: tires, brake pads, steering system, depreciation (admittedly there is little of this on the 1998 car that is now worth $1500-$2000) on your own car is more than the $30/day rental cost.
Also added to the thing is the worry that an old car may break down in the middle of nowhere...

Agreed for 500 miles each and every day. The problem is once you get to you destination, I don't drive, so then the math tips against renting.
It's hard to get 30 buck rentals all in with taxes and fees
About10 cents per mile for maintenance stuff. No depreciation on these cars. Mine could be parted for more than they are worth now!

Road trip prep... lets see, toss a quart of oil in the back, fill the tank, and toss in a bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner. Lets go!
My car has 275,000 miles on it and has been cross country 10 times in the pass year. The only spare part I take is a FPR. About to take a 8,000+ mile road trip in a few days, I might vacuum it before I leave. Original head, never replaced the rad, shot suspension, but I don't expect any failure in 8,000 miles.
Keep your car serviced and a road trip should be like a normal drive. Just my opinion.

Well, I do check tire pressure.
If you drive your car every day, and the timing belt service is NOT over due, why should your car break down? A car doesn't know if it is being driven 30 miles or 500. You use your brakes more driving across town than you do driving across 2 states.
