2001 V70T5 Do I have the latest tranmission software?

Post by carboncow »

I had the neutral shift lock out removed about 3 years ago on our 2001.

Questions:

1. Would I have had the latest software done at that time or is general tranmission software different then the software that removed the natural shift issue?
2. Is this all done in the TCM?

I'm going to do the B4 servo replacement in the following weeks. My 2001 falls outside the VIN numbers recommended for this but I see lots of antidotal evidence on the interwebs about peeps having it done on 02-03 and seeing results. Hopefully I didn't let this go to long...I assumed it was just valve bodies!

Fluid change will come during the project but I'm curious if I should go to the stealership for the latest software too being I had it done 3 years ago. I have Vide Dice so I'm assuming I can tell you the version I currently have if someone knows the recent firmwares...but I'm unsure if there are several different softwares at work here.

Thanks.

I'm interested in knowing more about the B4 servo replacement. Our 02 has over 190k and only shifting issue is going from reverse to forward, it's a bit slower than in the 03 but its not harsh and hasn't bothered me too much. Also I have no flare shifting or revving like many describe in regards to B4, is it advisable to replace as preventative care? After that many miles on original tranny I was thinking it's just getting older but if it will prevent issues later I'm all for a cheap fix.

Also I have a Vida dice and curious if I can verify the software on the transmission, to my knowledge I don't know if any new software has been applied to it.

BGS. There are 1001 write up on this if you google it covering the procedure and cars impacted. Several other forums have covered this en nausea but I'm looking for some specific info at this point. You are most likely not having a B4 issue which is related to 3rd gear flaring and hard shifts...again all out there with a little use of google.

PS. What you have done is hijacked a post and made it about you! I'm still waiting for good answers so please create your own post for answers or watch and/or contribute when answers start coming in.

Cheers!

Sincere apologies, that was not my intention. I felt that your comment about others having success was similar to my situation but again, I apologize, I did not mean to hijack as I did.

To Shawn's Q1: This is a simple way how you can tell: If you go to network/TCM/advanced, you would be able to see/invoke Adaptive Mode ONLY if you have the updated TCM firmware (otherwise that routine would be unavailable with earlier FW versions)

If you have to do a FW upgrade, a visit to a stealership is required or it can be done by an indie with a subsription, or remotely over the internet by someone that has a subscription (I recall precopster had certain information, I just cannot find where I saw it :?)
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

You have the latest software, there have not been any changes to 2001s since the S/N removal software which is a compete update not just the S/N removed

Software version numbers can be seen using Vida in Communication-Network-then highlight TCM.

There are 2 sw numbers at the bottom of the list. Usually if they begin with 30xxxxxxx they are current.

Post them here and I'll run it past someone who can tell you.
