1998 S70 A/C Won't Engage

I have a 98 S70 T5 that I don't drive often, but I pulled it out of the garage this past weekend and when I attempted to turn on the A/C the compressor did not engage. Last fall it was working, but after running for about 20 minutes I would get hot air blowing. I would then have to shut it down for about 10 minutes and when I turned it back on I would get cold air. Will the compressor engage without freon? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Might need a freon charge as well. I understand the compressor doesn't operate if the freon drops below a certain level. Not sure about that, but it is what I have heard.

Might just be low on refrigerant.
Do not perform "bread clip fix" ,because if you are low on refrigerant you will fry the compressor.
Check the refrigerant level at specialized service and let them take care of ac system.

I missed that now it is not turning on. It does sound like you have lost charge.

I am confident my evap core is original to the car, but when I bought the car last year it did have a filter when I replaced it. I'll check the refrigerant levels this weekend. Thanks for the help!!

get a broomstick and press on the compressor (with ignition in position 2 and AC button on). See if changing the gap (with pressure from stick) engages the compressor...

It will not engage that way.
The engine must run because ecu is managing the function of automatic ac.
