I think you will spend less time pulling a different head than you will getting a STRIPPED head bolt out.5rivers wrote: Well, I was able to remove 11 of the 12 head bolts, but the head on the 12th head bolt stripped on me.

Oh, my bad, I remembered "snapped" not "stripped" that is what my posts are about so they are irrelevant.
5rivers do you mean the corners on the bolt head have been rounded off? What rspi said - sounds like time to move on to another head.

Yes, the corners have rounded! If hammering or drilling the head on the head bolt does not work, I will have to wait for another '98 V70 to appear in the salvage yard! That might or might not be a long wait!

FYI, any 95-98 head from a non-turbo will be a direct swap. And the 95-98 turbo heads will work just fine too, but may require a little fiddling.

Thanks for that info; do you mean the 1995-97 850s? I am trying to find a head to swap out unbent valves into the head from my car. As far as I know, the head is okay. Do you know if the valves are the same? Alternatively, Is it possible to straighten out a bent valve? Looking for the least expensive route!

Yes, for 95-97 I mean 850s. If you are just pulling the valves and swapping them in to your head, then any 850 from 93-97 has compatible valves for your non-turbo. The turbo heads have sodium-filled valves and the non-turbo does not, but the sodium-filled ones will work just fine in a non-turbo.

That is useful information erik11, thank you!!
When I was looking up valve replacements, there are so many with small increments in size in stem diameter, and in valve seats/heads; if I was to select one, choosing a direct replacement would have been difficult at best. I would imagine that the sodium-filled valves are designed to withstand the increased pressure generated with a turbo engine (?). Thanks again!

After a few days of soaking, scrubbing, and brushing with 'mean green,' the inside of the camshaft cover is sparkling:
I do wonder, though, if I should be concerned about these marks near/on the section of the camshaft cover where the seals (I think) would normally sit:
Appreciate your thoughts!!

I would smooth the two nicks out carefully like a very narrow file and a few strokes by hand (remove ALL metal flakes!), but they are not going to be any problem at all for the cam seals.
