1986 240 DL Non power antenna to power antenna

Post by mika »

I have a non powered antenna on my 240 DL 86 (cracked,broken).... While at the yard, I pulled a spare antenna, but realized when home that it is a powered antenna (with motor and relay)

I cannot find a place to supply power for the new antenna (there is one black and red wire coming off the harness, but with ignition on, I do not measure any voltage.)

could I simply tap a light bulb light? I don't think a constant stream of electricity would be correct for this application

bump, any idea ? I am particularly interested to know how the powered antenna works; does it need a switch to go up and down? Also, where could I tap into power for it

I hooked everything up as on the diagram: and the antenna motor pulled the antenna down.

Does anyone know when/how the signal is sent to pull up the antenna? Is it when you turn the radio on or is signal sent when you turn the car on?

In 9xx/v/s/X models, there is an up and down switch.

On the 240 diagram, no switch is present. Anyone have tips or info about this? So close to getting this to work

All DC motors need current to make them go one way, and just the opposite current flow to make them go the other way.

If there is a motor relay in circuit, then only one wire is needed to raise antenna. When power from this wire is switched off, then antenna comes down.

I've never looked at diagram...is there a hot wire always on hooked to antenna?

Yes, it says "hot at all times" on the diagram. I hooked that wire up. The thing is, neither with car on or ignition on, I cannot find a current with my voltmeter on any wire combination. Maybe I should start swapping out some relays by the drivers footwell?

Antenna trigger wire connects to radio. The wire is red on the diagram.

Regina, so I found on the back of my radio the power antenna wire, which is not connected to anything obviously.

My question is...I know that the black/red wire is in the trunk, but where does it go from there? What path does it take and more importantly, where does it end up so I can find it? Behind the radio by the heater? (or do I have to pull my own wire from the trunk to the radio?)

I feel like a n00b, please bear with me, don't have anyone else to ask

Thank you

Got it working. I found the antenna wire on the radio, hooked it up, and not the antenna goes up when radio is on. I put in an OEM radio and replaced the aftermarket one
