First, does anyone know how to get one of these things cheaper than about $170 USD ?
If not, can anyone get information on the protocol that Volvo uses for communicating with the device (such as the computer) that resets the service light? If so, i will gladly design a reset tool and save 150 dollars for something i really should be buying at a reasonable cost.
I would need the complete protocol, such as any handshaking, etc. My first guess is that the tool uses a simple microcontroller that sends a series of bytes to the computer and that turns the service light off. Microcontrollers today cost between $1 and $5 USD for most types, even more advanced type units. Since that would be 99 percent of the 'tool', the cost should be very low to build one.
But i would need complete information about the communication between the tool and computer.
I would also be willing to hand the finished, tested design to others if they wanted to build one too, or even get someone to build a bunch of them and sell them for $10 USD or something like that to anyone here who wants one.
Thank you
