ECM / ECU / Computer – what other models or years fit? - 1998 V70 awd turbo
Mechanic tells me to look for a replacement to fix a misfiring situation - originally chronicled here - https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=69082
What models or years can I pull a ECM ECU from that will work as a replacement for my 1998 v70 AWD Turbo?
Thanks,
Andrew

Any 98 GLT or AWD will be a direct swap, although you need to pay attention to the air pump if you are not willing to consider the diode trick.
Any 98 T5 ECU will work just fine if you are willing to also swap in T5 (white) injectors at the same time.
There is no immobilizer issue on a US-spec 98.

Just not true for the US cars. My 98 GLT has a T5 ECU, it has been done many, many times.
Maybe this guy is ready to give up and part out the car, offer him $40 for the ECU ... http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/cto/4998210820.html ... or $400 for the car and you will be covered for every nuisance longevity failure over the next 5 years.

And you're saying that you don't have check engine light on with T5 high pressure turbo ecu on GLT which is low pressure turbo?

Yes. The same sensors are used and the correlation of MAF signal is very close. The T5 ECM will have some fuel trims that are 75% of the way to a fault code but I have not seen them set codes unless there was actually something wrong. You have to use high octane fuel since the fueling and timing advance are for an engine with 8.5:1 comp ratio and spark knock becomes much more of an issue with 9:1 CR.

What jimmy57 said. You can upgrade the turbo to 15g or 16t with the T5 ECU installed (true, I did that), but it is not required you can also just leave the 13g in there. Put in the larger (white) injectors and the fuel trim issue is averted altogether, but as stated it doesn't throw codes for fuel trim either.
