1998 v70 Correct Rotor Size (rear)

Hello there,

Today i thought i measured the rear rotor size edge to edge but i may have made a mistake because i was tired out from other things and some other problems and i just held the ruler up to the hub and of course the hub gets in the way when you try to measure the diameter. I was also in a hurry. So anyway, it looked like 280mm.
But then when i go to look up online for rotor sales, i see that 295mm would be more for the rear wheels, also with the higher 'hat' for the parking brake shoes. 280 seems to be more for the front.

So can anyone tell me the correct size rotor for the rear brakes?
This is a FWD (front wheel drive i think they sometimes call 2WD too) not the AWD, and no turbo.

Front rotors are ventilated,rear are not,plus they have inside groove for brake shoes.Those shoes are for hand brake.
They are also visually different.

So are you saying that they dont make the 280mm for the rear with the high hat? Because if they do then i might have that size right? Or do they ALL have 295mm?

My confusion arises because i see different sizes on the web that look like they can be for the back brakes, but sometimes they dont even give the size.

I don't think so.The link i posted to you is showing direct fit rear rotors,measurements are just like Oem ones.

There is a simpler way to do this. Go to FCPEuro.com and order "rear rotors" for your model and year. You will receive the proper items. Before I did that, however, given your location, I'd check with Bridgewater Volvo (which is close to you). Their online sales arm is www.volvocountryparts.com. Their prices are sometimes quite competitive. Call the guys at the parts counter and ask if they'll give you the online price and you can pick them up at the counter. No shipping, but you'll pay sales tax. You'll get them same day, however, if you go grab them.

Thanks for the idea. It's funny you should mention them, i found out that was where this actual car was first purchased from when brand new ! I guess that was way back then pre year 2000. Wow, long time ago now.
I will have to check them out.

Any idea what their service fees are for actually doing work on the car ?

Well that's very generous of you, and interesting because i like to buy people beers

Seriously we have a pretty nice bar very near here, about three blocks away.

I have a rotor on the way, will be here sometime next week. At first i didnt want to do this myself but now i cant wait to see how it goes.
I am also getting the following:
Brake grease, lithium
Extra brake fluid (shouldnt need it though)
Brake cleaner, maybe actually carburetor cleaner?

I've got a practically new can of brake cleaner and ditto with the brake grease. If we aren't't replacing calipers, there's no need for the brake fluid since we won't be opening up the system. Schedule is already shot for next week and the beginning of the following week, but I should free up after the 19th. How are you fixed for tools? Jack? Lug wrench? Jack stands?
