If the problem reoccurs or to prevent it from reoccurring disconnect and reconnect the connector at the front of the door where the electrical harness runs from the door post on the body, to the forward frame of the drivers door.
Note: Applying tune-up grease to the face of the connector will help keep the connections from deteriorating in the future.
There is a similar connector on the passenger door as well if any one is having a problem with the passenger door.
Trouble Shooting Tip
If the window switch works normally with the ignition on and the engine not running but becomes intermittent after the engine is started the problem is related to a connectivity problem with the twisted pair of wires used for the Can bus.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the connector at the front of the door is the simplest step to try before working on the connectors for the DDM inside the door.
Hope this helps

The horses mouth could not have said it better. Henry "doublebug" has programmed a 2001 DDM for my 2002 over the internet last year. Different part numbers were used and still he was able to load the software. Very clever chapdoublebug wrote:Dealer is wrong. Usually they say that to force you buy a new one.
Some dealers have a policy of not fittimg used programmable parts because the software downloads need to be paid for by the dealership whether they work or don't work. If the customer brings in a used faulty part from a pick and pull it can't be programmed or it fails after programming then they have a dispute with the customer about payment for their time and for the software download so I can see their viewpoint.

I upgraded my NA 2002 V70 to XC door panels that I pulled from a 2002 XC at the junkyard and I kept the original XC window switches on all 4 panels including the DDM. The XC switches worked just fine on the NA.
My recently acquired 2002 V70 T5's DDM started malfunctioning a week after purchasing the car but I happened to have yet another spare DDM from a *different* 2002 XC. The 2nd spare DDM was installed in the T5, no programming was needed and it restored 100% of the power window functionality.

@db130 if the firmware had been viewed under Vida in Network you would have seen the same numbers for all 3 of them.
Between 2001 and 2002 different numbers used. A 2001 DDM in a 2002 acts totally dead when swapped before firmware update.
