I have had 3 of 4 doors sporadically fail to unlock when using either the remote or the key in the drivers door. Sometimes all 3 (right front, right rear, left rear) fail to unlock. Mechanic says I need to have new door lock "actuators". Looking at FCP, it looks like the parts called "door lock assembly" for each door is what actuates the lock mechanisms. Is that right, that to fix the problem would take new door lock assemblies? They aren't cheap by any means.
Also, are there directions here on how to remove the various door panels to gain access to the door lock assemblies? I haven't found directions if they exist.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Especially in a hot place, the plastic/rubber expands and this happens often.
New actuator should solve this problem, but.... in my experience they are hard to access. It is under the door cards, deep inside the door. Cheap at junkyard, pain in the but to replace, but that is for you to decide on how to procede.
What I do when my door locks don't open: I pull that window down, and manually pull it up (instead of stretching arm to reach the door lock from other end of car and manually open it)

All four of mine have failed on my 1998 V70. I've replaced three of them with used parts on eBay, but it's a temporary fix and risky (in that you won't know how the used one works until it's installed). Last week, one of the eBay ones started acting up and am now in the same boat.
On the bright side, I didn't find any of them particularly difficult to replace. Just a bit of tight work.

Given that the car is 17 yrs old and the door lock issue has just emerged, I don't know that it is due to expansion of the plastic/rubber on the locks, but I'll see about a lubricant (non-messy). Sounds like I don't want to start messing with replacement myself - I can always get things apart but clips break or get lost and getting the panels back on tightly is something I've not been real successful at. Thanks for feedback.

I have had some of the locks misbehave when my battery voltage has been run down for one reason or another. Check your battery voltage and make sure it is holding a full charge.

There have been lengthy posts about a
protective device in the motor failing.
There are several fixes, but all involve
removing the latch assembly.
