2012 S60 Wheel fitment question for S60 and S70

Post by blandis »

My question is specific to wheel fitment on S60. Mods if I am out of bounds posting here my apologies. Reason I posted here is I am sure there is someone will have the question regarding fitment on a 70 series as do I. I have 99 S70 T5 and think these would look great on my car. If my son does not like them I will work to see if I can get them to fit on my s70. Looking at the centerbore they will not fit on a 70 series with having the centerbore machined.

Considering 18x7.5" Midir wheels to put on my sons 2012 S60. Offset is a bit different. Will I require spacers and different lug bolts?

I have compiled what info I can find. There is .1 difference in centerbore which seems strange considering they are both Volvo wheels. Will factory lug bolts work on the new wheels? What tire size would you run on the Midir wheels? That is assuming they will fit.

Below is what I found on stock wheels and the Midir.

Midir:
5x108
52.5 offset
63.5 Centerbore
12x1.50 lug bolt

Balder:
5x108
50 offset
63.4 centerbore
14x1.5 lug bolt

S70:
5x108
43 offset
65.1 center bore
12x1.75

I can't answer all your questions as I don't own a 2012 S60.

You have rightly identified the pitch of the wheel lug holes are the same. You may have to check with Volvo on the actual lug bolt compatibility, as I know the 2006 XC70 we own has different lug-bolts, but that is only the head of the bolt, the newer ones having a slip collar. I have 2005 S60 17" wheels fitted to my 2000 (P80) V70R. They work well and use the older style 'solid' lug-bolt. The main thing to check would be the threads are the same type and have enough length of thread not to bottom out and not fully tightening down the bolts.

The 2 bigger issues are:

1) Center bore- The newer wheels are too small for the P80 S/V70 and even the later P2 models. Your only choices would be to have the center bore widened out to fit, as an adapter plate won't work I wouldn't think with the small difference in the offset you have to work with. The other option is the expensive ones of having the S70 hubs machined down to fit. The Madir has the same lug-bolt width (12mm) but the Balder with the 14mm may cause vibration if the wheel doesn't center properly.

2) Offset - The larger the offset number, the further in the wheel hob sits into the car. This may cause the wheel to foul on turning on the inner arch on full lock either way, and/or rub on the front struts or flexible brake lines. This is where an adapter plate may be needed to bring the wheel out to prevent rubbing.

Hopefully that will give some help and maybe others will jump in and add more experience/knowledge.

Neil.
